Industrial machinery mechanics maintain and repair heavy tools and equipment. They disassemble and repair general industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems, e.g., conveyor systems. They also perform all recurring type scheduled maintenance, emergency repairs and provide maintenance foremen with equipment status for further repairs as needed.
They need to adhere to repair manuals to meet critical requirement levels. They must know how to operate shop power tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and shapers. They need to observe operating conditions and performances of machines or equipment and determine which adjustments or servicing may be required. They must be good at diagnosing problems, running tests and maintaining necessary inventory.
